Russell is located in Russell County in Central Kansas. It encompasses the communities of Paradise, Waldo, Lucas, Luray, Fairport, Gorham, Bunker Hill, Milberger, Dorrance, and Russell, which is the county seat.

The Russell Area Chamber of Commerce is having a new event for the public and surrounding areas on Saturday, April 26th starting at 10am! The Russell Flashback will include several cost-free activities for folks to enjoy. There will be free Verbal Approximation Valuations by Marvin Mann, Antiques Appraiser. Mr. Mann's areas of expertise include Antiques & Collectibles, Residential Contents, Furniture, Coins, and Glass. He will be at Fire Tender Trading Post, located at 727 Main St. from 10am-12pm; Encore Antiques & Collectibles, located at 590 S. Fossil from 1-3pm; and D. Palma & Co. Mercantile, located at 604 N. Main from 3-5pm. There's a limit of 2 items per person. Starting at 11am, there will be a Classic Cruise! Anyone who has what they consider to be a "classic" car should take advantage of this opportunity show it off in the cruise route that begins at the parking lot of the Fossil Creek Hotel & Suites, located at 1430 S. Fossil. Line-up will begin at 10:30am and will proceed with a police escort north on Fossil, south on Wichita, and end on Main St. The classic cars will back into parking spaces on Main and there will be People's Choice Award Winner who will be presented with a trophy at 1pm at the Cecil Bricker Park on Main St. There's no registration fee. At 2 pm, there will be free matinee showing of "The Little Rascals" at the Dream Theatre, located at 629 N. Main St. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase at the concessions stand. There will "punch cards" located at the following sponsoring businesses: Deines Cultural Center (820 N. Main St.), D. Palma & Co. Mercantile (604 N. Main St.), Encore Antiques & Collectibles (590 S. Fossil), Fire Tender Trading Post (727 Main), Heartland Building Center (86 S. Fossil, Russell), Midwest Family Health Center (725 N. Main), Myer's Furniture (721 N. Main), The Lodge At Russell-formerly Russell Inn (901 S. Fossil), West Side Propane & Convenience (616 W. Wichita), and Woelk's House of Diamonds (731 N. Main). For every $10 you spend in these businesses, you will receive initials on your card by the staff. When you fill a $100 card, you qualify for a drawing for $100 in Chamber Buck Certificates that will be drawn for and announced at 5pm at the Cecil Bricker Park on Main St. There is no limit on number of completed cards per person and you can drop off your filled cards at any of the previously listed sponsoring businesses. You can also vote on your favorite Classic Cruise car at any of the sponsoring businesses. I would also like to extend a huge "thank you" to the following businesses for their generous sponsorships to the Russell Flashback: Eagle Communications, Edward Jones-Brad Wagner, Russell County Economic Development, and Southwind Bank. This will be a great event to bring folks from the surrounding area to our community and also to provide cost-free fun for everyone!

Both start at 8:30am until sold out and proceeds will go to the Russell Relay for Life. Midwest Family Health is also doing something new this year called the "Drug Take Back." The community may bring their old, outdated prescriptions to the pharmacy to be disposed of from 8:30am-1pm. Myer's Furniture-Marty and the staff are offering a $50 trade-in for any chair that can be picked up, dragged or hauled into the store toward the purchase of any new La "Z" Boy recliner. The Lodge at Russell-The Russell's Inn has new owners, Rob and Phyllis Cary and is now named "The Lodge at Russell". Come in and see the renovations and talk to the staff about the future plans for the Lodge at Russell! Westside Propane & Convenience-When you stop for fuel, come into the store and take advantage of Happy Hour prices for all fountain drinks and slushies all day long! Russell Celebrations, Inc. Freedom Fest has a lot to offer this year! The fourth of July lineup will include The Dynamite Dash with Susan G. Komen at LaSada, VFW Community BBQ and Patriotic Program, Remote Control Car Race, Beer Garden and Vendors, Inflatables for the kids, and The Prairie Dusters. We are also very excited to announce that the band lineup for the 2014 Freedom Fest includes Dirt, Jeremy Nichols Band, and Country Music artist, Chris Cagle! More details to come!
